Recovery Timeline
The average time for recovery with laparoscopic surgery is around one week. After one week, most patients can resume normal activities with some restrictions. Patients with sedentary jobs can resume light duties after one week.
Food intake will be gradual, similar to the process of introducing foods to a baby. It's liquids, soft foods, and purees first. One of the most important restrictions is weightlifting. Patients cannot lift heavy objects over 25 pounds for the first six weeks, and they need to increase that weight slowly.
It is very important for patients to understand that recovery times are different for each patient. Most patients can resume full physical activity in three months. Patients must be committed to following directions, nutritional guidelines, and medical instructions to ensure that they recover with great success.
